GET TO KNOW THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF WIRE CONNECTORS

Access to the internet and the various contents that we can find on the net make it possible for us to carry out various activities that, in the past, would be difficult to carry out without the help of an experienced professional. Home renovations and electrical installations fall within this field of activities. In this text, we will learn a little more about electrical connectors and how to make splices yourself: what are electrical wire connectors, what types of electrical connectors are and other information that will help in the installation of showers, fans, sockets and other electronic equipment.

WHAT ARE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS?

Electrical connectors are components used to facilitate the connection of cables, facilitating splices and making installations safer. A wire connector is an electrical connector, that is, a device that connects one or more points where signal communication is required.

Electrical connectors are used in the electrical connection between conductors and have the function of eliminating or reducing current leakage. They are used to splice parts of the same wire and avoid losing electrical energy. Easy and convenient to use, you can choose the electrical wire connector that best suits your needs.

TYPES OF ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS?

There are a few different types of connectors such as auto connect connector, split bolt connector, porcelain connector, sindal multiple connector and twist connector. It is important to highlight that there is no better connector than another, what exist are different types of connectors, which have different uses.

Depending on your needs, you will need one type of connector or another, for example: there are some that are used without stripping the wires and do not require the use of special tools, while others can be reused and allow you to connect and insulate at the same time. Are we going to learn more about the different types of electrical connectors and how to use them?

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND HOW TO USE THEM?

As already mentioned, wire connectors are used to assemble, repair or perform maintenance on the electrical network. Each type of connector has its peculiarities, so it is important to know a little more about each one of them:

1. AUTOMATIC CONNECTION CONNECTOR

Hot plug connectors can be used in a variety of applications, such as residential installations, ceiling fans, light fixtures and splicing for outlets. In addition to being practical, such components offer connection and isolation at the same time. Therefore, you will not need to use insulating tape on the splice made with an automatic connection connector. You will have to look for the correct model for the splice you want to make, there are several models with different capacities.

2. SPLIT BOLT CONNECTOR

The split bolt connectors are indicated and suitable for use in junction and passage boxes in electrical installations in general. In splices made with split bolt connectors, it is necessary to insulate with self-fusion tape. This connector is versatile and can be used in any splicing between two cables, even in cases where you need to splice rigid cables with flexible ones.

The split bolt allows for an extension splice or a branch splice. To use it, the first step is to strip the cables, then open the terminal and completely remove the nut. Then, you must fit the cables into the terminal slot, place the nut again and tighten with the appropriate screwdriver. You will have to look for the correct model for the splice you want to make, there are several models with different capacities.

3. PORCELAIN CONNECTOR

The porcelain connector is the most suitable model for splicing in places with high temperatures, which is why it is the most suitable model for the shower. It is a connector with excellent thermal insulation, which does not require the use of insulating tape.

You can find bipolar or tripolar porcelain connectors with different capacities. Handling this type of connector is simple: just use the appropriate screwdriver to loosen the connection terminal screws, then insert the cables and tighten the screws again.

4. TORSION CONNECTOR

Twist connectors are great options for anyone looking to make quick and secure cable splices. As with automatic connectors, they are very simple to handle and are excellent insulators. They can be used in ceiling fans, splices for light fixtures, junction boxes and socket splices, for example.

The twist connectors have different colors: red, yellow, orange, blue and gray. It is important to pay attention, because each connector color supports a different current and gauge. Another important information is that the gauge corresponds to the sum of the gauges of the two cables that will be spliced in the connector, that is, if the splice is 2 cables of 3 mm², you must use a connector for gauge of at least 6 mm². Handling is super simple, just strip the cables, join the ends, insert them into the connector and screw until it is firm.
